how clouds became white

Once upon a time clouds were the kings of the universe. The reason was that back in those days whoever was the most colourful was the most powerful.  Even longer ago, clouds were sent black. But since clouds are made from water, and water can get almost anywhere, clouds out to steal more and more colours. After a while clouds were a mixture of swirling colours , that covered every bit of them.

Even so the clouds wanted more colours so the water was always busy stealing colours from other things in that old land. Grass was once red and yellow, and trees were a fluffy pink and blue. Lions were a dazzling green, purple and yellow. Tigers were orange, brown, and red, before the clouds stole their colours.

So a plan was created to stop all this by the other animals. The tiger showed all the other animals a white crystal, that projected a rainbow onto the ground when the sun came up. The tiger said, “If we got the clouds to be this  colour, they would project all their colours down to us, and we could take away that most colourful, most powerful rule.” All the other animals loved that idea, so they decided to put it into action.

It worked perfectly. The clouds loved the sight of those colours, and almost begged to have the power to create those colours. So all the animals and birds got busy with painting the clouds into a nice white colour. When the sun came up, all the cloud’s colours were projected away.

The colours returned to the earth, but the animals got different colours. Also, now and again, the clouds start to cry, remembering their lost colours. Their tears come down as rain. Even so they can still make rainbows, the same as the crystal, as a memory of their once many colours.
